Vanderhoof Community Garden
In the spring of 2004, a group of local community members from Vanderhoof decided that there was value in creating a place where people from all sectors of the local community could come together to grow their own healthy vegetables.
The Municipal District of Vanderhoof provided a long-term lease on a piece of public property, and volunteers got to work and marked out small garden plots.
The project is currently enabling a diverse group of people from differing socio-economic levels to work together to build a sustainable community and to participate in an activity that has an immediate economic benefit to themselves and their families.
The Community Garden has been successful in securing funding that will enable the construction of greenhouses, storage sheds, and garden beds accessible to persons with disabilities, as well as appropriate fencing, lighting, and a water supply.
