What is the origin of Community Futures?

Employment and Immigration Canada (now named Human Resources Development Canada), starting in 1986, was responsible for establishing 90 Community Futures organizations throughout rural Western Canada.

In 1995, responsibility for Community Futures was transferred to Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) who continue to provide core funding assistance.

Community Futures Stuart Nechako

Community Futures Stuart Nechako (CFSN) began operations in 1994 (formerly known as Community Futures Development Corporation of Stuart Nechako) as an independent, non-profit organization.

Since its inception CFSN has created the following value, impact and contribution to the Stuart Nechako Region from 1996 to 2007:
* Number of small businesses started or maintained = 156
* Value of loans disbursed to SME's for business startup or expansion = $6,856,847
* Number of volunteer hours contributed from 2002 to March 2007 = 10,348
